Mazda RX Vision Concept Wins “Most Beautiful Concept” Title

The Mazda RX Vision concept made its debut in the second half of 2015 at the Tokyo Motor Show and was met with incredible success. Enthusiasts and insiders alike scrambled to get a look at the revival of the Mazda RX nameplate, and Mazda has since brought the concept to various other events to show off the RX Vision’s sleek good looks and elegant but powerful performance. One such event was the recent 31st Festival Automobile International, at which the RX Vision concept won the “Most Beautiful Concept” award.RX Vision concept - Mazda

Mazda has a history steeped in sporty, light, fun-to-drive little cars, and the RX Vision is a continuation of a long and rich pedigree of sleek, aerodynamic coupes with a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive powertrain. Other cars in the running for the award at the 31st Festival Automobile International includes the likes of the Porsche Mission E, Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6, and the Peugeot Fractal, but it was the RX Vision concept’s elegant tweaks to Mazda’s KODO – Soul of Motion design philosophy that won over the judging panel.

This isn’t the first award that the RX Vision concept has taken home. Mazda’s global design division acquired three more awards last year at the Automotive Brand Contest 2015, one of which was the most reputable award at the ceremony, the Team of the Year title. The Mazda RX Vision was on display in Paris until January 31st following the show.

Mazda is Considering a Turbocharged MX-5

The Mazda MX-5 has always been regarded as an incredible value proposition. It’s one of those cars that, for an affordable amount of money, can give you that proper roadster experience you’ve always wanted.

Turbocharged MX-5The announcement and reveal of the all-new model has gotten us even more invested than usual in the MX-5 at Steet Ponte Mazda, and now the automaker’s head of global public relations, Kudo Hidetoshi, is hinting at an even more powerful version.

“We will have this ND-series model for maybe ten years, which gives us plenty of time to make many variants,” he said. “And yes, a turbocharged or MPS variant is one of the options we will definitely consider.”

The current engines will be 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinders. Possible upgrades could include the 2.5-liter version of those engines already found in the high-end Mazda3s, though Hidetoshi was adamant about a turbocharged Mazda MX-5. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see!

Mazda 2014 Sales Numbers Best in 20 Years

It looks like Mazda can look back on 2014 with some fond memories. The Japanese carmaker recently announced that Mazda 2014 sales were the best the company has recorded since 1994. Over the course of last year, Mazda boasted a 7.7% increase in sales since 2013 after selling a total of 305,802 units in both the fleet and retail sector.

Mazda 2014 Sales - 2015 Mazda CX-5“2014 can only be described as historical when it comes to Mazda sales,” said Ron Stettner, vice president of sales for Mazda North America. “Mazda3, Mazda6, and CX-5 have out-performed all year and, as a result, we surpassed 300,000 vehicle sales for the first time since 1994. The support of our dealers, along with the strongest, most-competitive showroom we have ever offered is the driving force behind our success; I’m confident we’ll continue this momentum through 2015 and beyond.”

Helping Mazda achieve these great sales numbers was the Mazda3, which recorded its second best December sales last month after selling 9,719 units. The CX-5 also made a lasting impression, almost selling 100,000 vehicles in 2014, which was a 24.6% increase in sales compared to 2013.

The Mazda Furai Comes Back to Life in Gran Turismo Video Game

Eight years ago, Mazda released what it called the Furai, a dramatically designed concept that captured the hearts and imaginations of race car fans everywhere. Then, sadly, it was destroyed in a fire just a year later. Now the Mazda Furai comes back to life, sort of, in the Gran Turismo video game for PlayStation.

Mazda is the latest automaker to participate in the Vision Gran Turismo project, which challenged manufacturers to create digital concepts for in-game play. Mazda calls its concept the LM55 Vision Gran Turismo, which has obvious design similarities to the Furai.

Mazda says the car also was also inspired by the 1991 Le Mans winner, the rotary-powered 787B. However, the paint scheme on the LM55 is closer to the other 787 cars in the race.

The car is available to download now, so log in and give it a go. In case you don’t have the Gran Turismo game, watch this video to see some of the design process and watch the car in action.

Will you be adding the Mazda Furai-inspired car to your Gran Turismo garage?

Mazda-Powered Indy Lights Announced for Upcoming Trade Show

Mazda-Powered Indy LightsMazda has announced that they will be powering the 2015 Dallara Indy Lights chassis at the upcoming Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade Show by providing engines for the vehicles, just one example of Mazda’s involvement in the world of motorsports.

The 2.0-liter turbocharged Mazda MZR engines, which will be used in Indy Lights, were initially developed as part of Mazda’s Advanced Engine Research program. These engines were first utilized by Mazda in both the American and European Le Mans Series.

“Almost a third of Indy 500 field traces their roots to Mazda … (Indy Lights) allows us to have an even longer, more productive relationship with the Indy stars of the future,” John Doonan, director of Mazda Motorsports said, adding, “we can’t wait for the season to start at St. Pete, all the way to autumn in Monterey at our own Mazda Raceway for the season finale.”

While you may not have a Mazda racecar like those at the Mazda-powered Indy Lights, you certainly can pick out a Mazda model that reflects the automaker’s consistent effort to produce the best of the best. Come visit us at Steet Ponte Mazda to find one today.

Mazda Bio-Based Material Expected in Upcoming MX-5

Mazda Bio-Based Material The Mazda Miata is elevating its status to an even more innovative level, with Mazda establishing its 2016 model as the first to incorporate parts made from an all-new bioplastic, made directly by Mazda.

The bio-based engineering plastic is suitable for many automobile parts on the exterior of cars, allowing the company to lower its environmental impact significantly. This comes in handy not only for the environment, but also for Mazda, at a time when environmentally friendly cars are more popular than ever.

Little is known about the new material, but allegedly, it’s easy to mold, remarkably durable, and able to achieve a mirror-like finish that looks to be even higher quality than classic plastic.

The Mazda bio-based material can be used for interior parts as well, as it will be utilized for the upcoming 2016 Mazda MX-5.

No official release date has been announced for any Mazda models with the new material, so in the meantime, head on down to Steet Ponte Mazda to explore our available models.

Mazda Announces Return of the Mazda Drive for Good Event

Mazda Drive For GoodIt’s that time of year when Mazda partners with non-profit organizations to support their charitable efforts, and you can help. As part of the 2014 Mazda Drive for Good event, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) will donate $150 to one of four national organizations for every Mazda vehicle purchased during the holiday season.

Upon purchase or lease of a new Mazda, owners will be able to choose from St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital®, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, or Mazda Foundation (USA) as their preferred charity to receive the $150 donation. Mazda also provides a list of local charities eligible to receive the donation.

In addition, for every test drive taken, Mazda employees, dealers (yep, that includes us here at Steet Ponte Mazda), and other business partners will donate one hour of service.

“We are excited to have increased the donation amount for the 2014 Mazda Drive for Good charity event,” said Jim O’Sullivan, MNAO president and CEO.

“Mazda donated more than $2.7 million last year and while we know the charity partners were appreciative, we always want to do more. However, no Mazda charity event would be complete without rolling up our sleeves and lending a helping hand by donating an hour of charitable service for every test drive.”

For more information, check out the event website or come see us today for your new Mazda.
