2017 Mazda CX-5 Redesign

2017 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 compact crossover has been gaining ground in the hotly-contested segment and the automaker is looking to continue its success. The latest redesign brings a premium interior packed with more technologies, a new engine, and styling updates. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is on the path to challenge premium models in its segment.

The previous Mazda CX-5 boasted a starting MSRP just over $24,000, putting it in the realm of competitors like the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson. The latest redesign brings a slightly higher price and a long list of additional standard equipment.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 starts at $24,985, a $910 increase compared to the 2016 model. That pricing puts it in the range of the Honda CR-V. While it may seem more expensive, the sheer amount of standard features added more than make up for the difference.

The redesigned CX-5 boasts a more powerful 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine mated to an automatic transmission. Drivers will also enjoy standard LED headlights, G-Vectoring Control, Smart City Brake Support, and a 7-inch touchscreen display complete with the Commander knob.

Those additional features join standard equipment from the previous year, including 17-inch aluminum wheels, push-ignition, keyless entry, and more.

We here at Steet Ponte Mazda can’t wait for the arrival of the redesign Mazda CX-5!

Mazda Connect Infotainment System Scores With Digital Trend

Mazda’s proprietary infotainment system is called Mazda Connect. Digital Trends may not have liked the name, but in their recent review of Connect, they certainly appreciated quite a bit about the system.

Mazda Connect Infotainment SystemMazda succeeded by taking risks. Most notably, Mazda chose to forgo a touchscreen. While at first this may seem backwards, this move has a purpose: safety and ease of use. Touchscreens, no matter how long we use them, still demand visual interaction. By employing a command-wheel, Mazda introduces quite a bit more intuition into the game. A more intuitive system is a less distracting system.

Engineers also had safety in mind when they placed the display screen. “By placing the screen both high on the dash, and at an optimal distance from the driver, the refocusing time is minimized, making it much easier to glance back and forth from screen to road.”

Overall, Digital Trends found the Mazda Connect infotainment system to be highly favorable, noting its high-quality components and intuitive interface. Mazda’s infotainment system is “luxury quality technology at a family car price.”

Mazda Is Introducing Drastic Changes, Some Quicker Than Others

Mazda3 - Mazda introducing drastic changesMazda is introducing drastic changes that you don’t want to miss! Giving vehicles multiple upgrades within a year’s time is not extremely typical in the auto industry. Usually a change here and there will be made from one model to the next, but nothing that is too enormous.

Auto News reports that Mazda, though, is shaking things up. The automaker is planning to make significant upgrades in a short time span, with some vehicles even “undergoing major changes in back-to-back years.” For example, the Mazda6 will be getting a new and improved interior in 2015, and then will turn right around and receive brand new sheet metal in 2016.

Mazda is currently in the midst of their “sixth-generation” product, which uses Skyactiv technology. This platform will be used in all new models up until 2018.  Then the seventh-generation will begin, for which Mazda will unveil brand new platforms. Mazda will also install the aforementioned sheet metal onto all of its seventh-generation vehicles, beginning with the Mazda3.

Here at Steet Ponte Mazda, we can’t wait to see what other major changes Mazda rolls out next! In the meantime, stop by to test out some of Mazda’s current generation of great cars.
