Supercar Worthy of Celebrating Mazda’s Centenary

As it approaches its 100th birthday, coming in 2020, plans are already underway to create a supercar worthy of celebrating Mazda’s centenary. Likely called the RX-9, the car, yet to be confirmed, will highlight the brand’s history of renowned sport cars.

Mazda SupercarWhile waiting for this beauty to hit sales floors there may be a revival of the rotary engine, the Cosmo Rotary-engine celebrates its 50-year anniversary in 2017, and the automaker has already renewed the trademark on the RX-7 nameplate.

Yasuhiro Aoyama, Mazda’s GM of Global Sales and Marketing confirms the bright future of the company. “This is a very fantastic idea, 2017, [for] a new rotary,” said Aoyama. The return of a rotary-powered RX-7 would pump up the brands image while nodding to Mazda’s past craftsmanship.

A superior supercar would singlehandedly transport the automaker into the future as one of the most competitive brands. Having a history of fantastic vehicles and sporting credibility will keep Mazda a top runner in the industry.

Fingers crossed that Mazda doesn’t hold out for too long and brings us the long awaited car of the future. Itching for a new Mazda now? Look at our current listings at Steet Ponte Mazda today!

Mazda to Offer Diesel-Electric Hybrid in 2016

Diesel cars are more efficient than their gasoline counterparts as are hybrid engines. Now, combine the two into a diesel-electric hybrid and you get a highly efficient machine.

diesel-electric hybridMazda has announced that it has plans to release a diesel hybrid option in 2016. However, it would only be available in Japan. Here in the U.S., we’re still waiting on a diesel version of the Mazda6, which was due out this spring, but was then delayed for an unspecified amount of time because Mazda needs to “deliver the right balance between fuel economy and Mazda-appropriate driving performance.”

According to Green Car Reports, the diesel hybrid Mazda is planning should have a fuel economy around 54 mpg combined, which isn’t too shabby at all. The hybrid system is expected to be relatively simple with the electric power going to the wheels and assisting the diesel engine.

What do you think about Mazda’s diesel options? If the diesel-powered Mazda6 ever arrives in the United States would you consider driving it?

2016 Mazda MX-5 Teased Under Blue Sheet

2014 Mazda MX-5 MiataA thin blue sheet and a couple of weeks are all that stand between us and the 2016 Mazda MX-5. Before its official September 3 debut, Mazda has released a teaser image of the all-new MX-5 under a blue sheet that shows off some of the roadster’s shape.

Based on the curves revealed by the sheet, it seems the new model will have similar proportions to the current design. It also seems to match the thinly camouflaged MX-5 spied out on the road recently in Japan.

We’ll have to wait until the September 3 debut to get the full picture, but we do know the new MX-5 will have a SkyActiv chassis and will be about 200 pounds lighter and more rigid than the current model. Auto experts expect engine choices to include 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter options, both utilizing SkyActiv technology.

The 2016 Mazda MX-5 will be unveiled on September 3 at Laguna Seca in California. You can bet we’ll all have our eyes on California that day.

What features do you hope to see in the next-generation 2016 Mazda MX-5?
