Introducing the MX-5 Global Cup Series: Racing At its Finest

MX-5 Global Cup Series - 2016 Mazda MX-5 MiataAt Steet Ponte Mazda, we take pride in knowing the MX-5 Miata is the best-selling roadster in history. With drivers around the world grinning from ear to ear in this sporty model, it seems like Mazda doesn’t need to change a thing. But will we ever see a race-worthy model?

Mazda recently announced that the new 2016 Mazda MX-5 will appear in a new MX-5 Global Cup Series. This series will feature race-modified Miatas that will go head-to-head in competitions around the world. If you’re a fan of the MX-5, you’re not going to want to miss this.

“We’re excited to take the elements of success of the existing Mazda MX-5 Cup series, and introduce them to a new global audience,” said Masahiro Moro, a Managing Executive Officer.  “It has long been our goal to see Mazda fans around the world competing in identical MX-5s, and the launch of the 2016 MX-5 Miata is the perfect time to make this goal a reality.”

Although few details have been released, the race-models will feature a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder, according to a Mazda press release. Final details will be released in 2015.

Mazda MX-5 Cup Goes Global

Mazda MX-5 CupSince its recent unveiling, the most-asked question about the fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 has been “Where will it race?”

Mazda has just answered that question with the announcement that the Mazda MX-5 Cup would be going worldwide in 2016 as the MX-5 Global Cup, a new series that will take place in North America, Europe, and Asia.

The series will take place around the world with identically prepared cars and will culminate at the end of 2016 with a Global Shootout at the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California.

“It has long been our goal to see Mazda fans around the world competing in identical MX-5s, and the launch of the 2016 MX-5 Miata is the perfect time to make this goal a reality,” said Masahiro Moro, a Mazda executive.

Little has been revealed about the race-spec MX-5 so far, though we do know it uses a 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder engine. For all the details about the production version, however, visit Steet Ponte Mazda!

How to Winterize Your Car

Let’s face it, here in upstate New York, we face some of the toughest winters in the country. Every year around this time, we begin dusting off our snow boots and digging those heavy winter coats out of the closet. As we prepare ourselves for the bitter cold temperatures headed our way, let’s not forget about our cars.

Winter is a tough season for your car. Below-freezing temperatures, salty roads, and heavy ice and snow can wreak havoc if you don’t properly prepare and maintain your vehicle through the winter months.

Here are our tips on how to winterize your car:

Check your oil. The oil that should be used in your engine is dependent on how hot or how cold your engine is running. During the winter months you’ll want to switch over to thinner, less viscous oil. Refer to your owner’s manual or check with your service department to see what is best for your car.

Winterize Your Car - Steet Ponte MazdaRefresh engine coolant. Your engine coolant not only keeps your engine cool, but also protects your engine against corrosion. Make sure you have a coolant that’s appropriate for winter (contains ethylene glycol), and make sure you have the ideal coolant to water ratio for winter.

Check your battery. Cold weather is rough on car batteries, so before the temperatures dip uncomfortably low, have your battery tested. If your battery is at the end of its life, get it replaced sooner rather than later – you don’t want to be caught in a snow storm with a battery that won’t start.

Get snow tires. Utica receives more snow than almost anywhere else in the United States, so if there’s one thing you want to do before winter, its get snow tires. These tires are specifically engineered to grip to snowy and icy roads, offering more traction and control.

Replace windshield wipers: Make sure you have wipers that cleanly wipe away water, snow and ice. Old wipers can leave behind moisture that can obstruct your view.

Create an emergency safety kit. Make sure you keep a flashlight, car cell phone charger, water, high-energy snacks, blanket, gloves, sand or kitty litter, and small shovel in your car, just in case.

Mazda Charity Program Starts Second Annual “Mazda Drive for Good” Event

Last year, Mazda created and executed an all-new winter charity event called the “Mazda Drive for Good.” This year, they’re doing it again, with an even greater focus on local charitable contributions, as well as donations and service hours from Mazda dealerships and employees. From November 21st to January 2nd, for every Mazda bought or leased, Mazda will donate $150 dollars to charity. The charities are yet to be announced, so stay tuned.

Mazda Drive for Good“Mazda Drive for Good started as an idea, a way to bring together the good things Mazda, its employees, its dealers and its business partners were doing in their local community,” explained Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. “From there it grew into a way for Mazda to reach new heights in charitable giving, whether monetarily or through volunteer service. Mazda is honored to expand our efforts further by partnering with NBCUniversal and helping a community that needs an extra hand to achieve its goal.”

With the Mazda Drive for Good gearing up for its second year, there’s no better time to come see us here at Steet Ponte Mazda to get a head start on your new car research. Make sure to come in and get your new Mazda between November 21st and January 2nd to help the Mazda Drive for Good Event succeed in raising money for charity for the second straight year.
