Mazda Downloadable Car Pack Lets You Drive the new MX-5 in Forza Horizon 2

The all-new, fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata isn’t exactly the most expensive roadster out there. In fact, at under $25,000, it’ll be one of the coolest cars you can buy for the price.

Mazda MX-5 Miata - Mazda Downloadable Car PackUnfortunately, it’s not quite here yet. The car isn’t set to hit Steet Ponte Mazda until later this year at the earliest, and even when it does, you might not have 25 grand lying around. But you might have an Xbox, which can basically get you halfway.

On March 17th, a new Mazda downloadable car pack was made available on Forza Horizon 2 (a racing video game on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One), which includes the greatest MX-5s from 1990 all the way up to the upcoming 2016 model.

The automaker is also organizing a competition with a real-life MX-5 Miata as the ultimate reward. Those interested need to lap the virtual car around the Sisteron Perimeter Sprint Circuit, with the two fastest slated to take part in a head-to-head race in June. The winner will get his very own 2016 MX-5!

Mazda MX-5 Production Begins, For Sale in Coming Years

Mazda MX-5 ProductionIn a news release, Mazda announced that it has finally begun 2016 Mazda MX-5 production, meaning less time until we see the redesigned roadster for sale. The MX-5 is currently being built for the Japanese market, but we’re hoping it’ll make it to our side of the pond soon.

The car will go in sale in Japan sometime around June, when we’re likely to see a flood of reviews for the vehicle leak online. The release adds that after the Japan sales begin, the “the MX-5 will be progressively rolled out to overseas markets.”

Mazda believes that the latest MX-5 fully represents its philosophy of the “pursuit of driving pleasure.” In fact, the MX-5 holds the Guinness World Record for world’s best-selling two-seater sports car, so consumers must agree.

Here’s the super-cool track version of the MX-5 to hold you over, while you anxiously await the vehicle to hit US dealerships. Let us know what you think of the new MX-5 in the comments.

Mazda Connect Infotainment System Scores With Digital Trend

Mazda’s proprietary infotainment system is called Mazda Connect. Digital Trends may not have liked the name, but in their recent review of Connect, they certainly appreciated quite a bit about the system.

Mazda Connect Infotainment SystemMazda succeeded by taking risks. Most notably, Mazda chose to forgo a touchscreen. While at first this may seem backwards, this move has a purpose: safety and ease of use. Touchscreens, no matter how long we use them, still demand visual interaction. By employing a command-wheel, Mazda introduces quite a bit more intuition into the game. A more intuitive system is a less distracting system.

Engineers also had safety in mind when they placed the display screen. “By placing the screen both high on the dash, and at an optimal distance from the driver, the refocusing time is minimized, making it much easier to glance back and forth from screen to road.”

Overall, Digital Trends found the Mazda Connect infotainment system to be highly favorable, noting its high-quality components and intuitive interface. Mazda’s infotainment system is “luxury quality technology at a family car price.”

Car Brand Report Card Earns Mazda Second Place among Automakers

Often, we view vehicles as either having exhilarating performance but lacking reliability, or as reliable models that are boring to drive. Consumer Reports’ annual Car Brand Report Card proves that it is indeed possible to unite performance and reliability. As a matter of fact, Mazda’s report card landed the automaker in second place on the 2015 list.

Vehicles are ranked based on both their road-test scores and their projected reliability. The road-test score is achieved through evaluating factors such as fuel-efficiency, driving and handling, and refinement.

Car Brand Report Card - Mazda3The Mazda brand was recognized overall, and the Mazda3, Mazda6, and CX-5 were distinguished as standout models specifically recommended by the publication.

“SKYACTIV Technology sets Mazda apart, with strong, lightweight and efficient engineering that instills excellent fuel economy and standout handling in everyone of our new-generation vehicles,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. “Our innovation prowess allows us to keep pushing boundaries with our dramatic KODO — Soul of Motion designs and first-class technology and features, and we’re proud to be recognized for our efforts.”
