What Determines Your Credit Score?

What Determines Your Credit Score

What Determines Your Credit Score

Your credit score is very important; it will help determine the type of loan you get—or if you get a loan at all—for big purchases like a house or car. But what actually determines your credit score?

  1. Credit Card Usage: How you use your credit card helps determine your credit score. The utilization rate is essentially how much available credit you have been awarded and how much you actually use. If you have a $1,000 credit limit on a card and only use $300 (30%) each month—and regularly pay it off—you are actively working on building strong credit.
  2. Payment History: Late bills and payments will negatively affect your credit score, but if you regularly make your payments on time, this will help improve your credit score.
  3. Number of Open Lines of Credit: Improving credit can be confusing. Creditors want you to have a robust history of credit, meaning they like to see several open lines of credit. But that doesn’t mean they want you to open ten credit cards and never pay them off. Instead, they want to see a balanced and maintained credit history, with perhaps a couple credit cards, student loans, an auto loan, and a mortgage, all of which are regularly paid.

EPA Ranks Mazda as the Cleanest and Most Fuel-Efficient Automaker

As other automakers throw all of their eggs in the hybrid and electric basket, Mazda has stuck to its conventional, gasoline-powered guns. And it’s working.

cleanest and most fuel-efficient automaker - Mazda CX-%According to the latest report from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Mazda ranked first in 2014 in adjusted fuel economy across its lineup, with an average 29.4 miles per gallon. It also boasted the lowest average emissions of any manufacturer, with 302 grams of CO2 emitted per mile.

In addition to being the cleanest and most fuel-efficient automaker, the EPA predicts Mazda will keep its reign at the top in 2015 and be the first to break both the average 30 mpg barrier and sub-300 grams of CO2 emissions per mile.

So there you have it. When you shop at Steet Ponte Mazda, you’ll find a lineup of cars that, on average, are cleaner and more fuel-efficient than anything you’ll be offered at other dealerships!

How to Spread holiday Cheer in Your Neighborhood

Holiday Cheer in Your NeighborhoodThis time of year is undeniably the most joyous, but for some people, their joy may be dampened for one reason or another. If you know of people who are feeling more downhearted this Christmas season, here are a few simple ways to spread holiday cheer in your neighborhood.

  • Order a pizza. Sometimes, a little bit of food is all it takes to make someone’s day brighter. Send an unannounced pizza delivery to a friend. There is no other comfort food quite like a hot pizza.
  • Buy the gas. The next time you stop to fill up your car, offer to buy someone else’s gas. Perhaps you see a mom with a minivan full of kids or an older gentleman who is struggling to get in and out of his car. Just imagine how great you would feel if someone paid for your gas.
  • Give a gift card. Head to your local grocery store and purchase a few gift cards for the store in whatever amount works for you. Then, walk around and look for people who seem like they could use a smile. Hand them the gift card, wish them a Merry Christmas, and walk away.
  • 12 Days of Christmas. Pick out a neighbor who lives nearby who could use a little cheer this holiday season. Then, as a family, come up with 12 gifts you could share with them—cookies, cards, decorations, dinner, etc. Each of the 12 nights leading up to Christmas, sneak over to their house, leave the gift on the porch, ring the doorbell, and hide. On the last night, you can announce your presence, if you want, or just leave all the gifts as a mystery.

What is your favorite way to spread Christmas cheer?

Fall Road Hazards – Beware!

We all know the notorious dangers of driving in the winter – icy roads, blinding snow, stalling engines. But, did you know that there’s a laundry list of fall road hazards as well?

Fall Road HazardsWatch out for these troublesome autumn surprises when you’re on the road this season:

Weather

Fall weather isn’t just pretty sunlight shining through the changing leaves – it’s hard rain, frost, and foggy mornings, too. Always have your lights on in rain and fog, but beware the use of high beams, especially in the fog. The bright lights will reflect off of the fog bank and just make your visibility tougher.

Leaves

Leaves are a danger during the fall for two reasons. The obvious reason is that they fall onto the roads and mess with your car’s traction and stability. But, the less obvious reason comes from other drivers. People love to slow down, sometimes stop entirely, to gawk at the beautiful colors all around. These beautiful views are just accidents waiting to happen; when you’re looking at the trees, you’re not looking at the road.

The Sun

Summertime gets all the credit for sunshine, but as the days get shorter in the fall, the setting sun aligns perfectly with your work commutes. The low position of the sun puts it perfectly ahead of your windshield or in your rearview. Always bring proper sun protection!

These fall road hazards might seem like nothing, but don’t take them lightly. Stay safe on the road this season!

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata’s Fuel Economy Rises 25 Percent

Thanks to SKYACTIV Technology and some nifty weight-saving techniques, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata’s fuel economy is estimated to be about 25 percent better than the outgoing model.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata's Fuel EconomyThe EPA estimates it’ll get 27 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and about 30 mpg combined when equipped with the standard SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission—which is, of course, the transmission we recommend at Steet Ponte Mazda. Proper roadsters like the MX-5 Miata can only be halfway experienced with an automatic.

If you do choose the automatic, fuel economy estimates stay the same except for a 2 mpg bump on the highway. We promise we won’t judge.

Either way, the new SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine with its 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque should be giving you a nice time, especially since the new MX-5 Miata has lost about 150 pounds compared to the 2015 model. So in addition to being more economical, it’ll also be faster off the line and more nimble!
