Mazda MX-5 Miata Named Best Sports Car from Consumer Reports

Consumer Reports - Best Sports Car - 2016 Mazda MX-5 MiataConsumer Reports named the best cars on the market in America across ten popular categories. What does it take to be named the best by Consumer Reports? Consumer Reports puts each vehicle through extensive tests, as well as shines for reliability, safety, and owner satisfaction.

What it Takes to Be Tops:

  • Performance – each model must rank at or near the top of its class in Consumer Reports road-test scores to qualify.
  • Safety – top picks must perform effectively in a rollover and crash tests that the government conducts, or the IIHS.
  • Owner Satisfaction – Consumer Reports surveyed their subscribers about their happiness level regarding the vehicles in their garages. One question they ask is if they would buy the car again.
  • Reliability – in order to be named the Best in one of the categories, models must have an average or better predicted reliability rating based on problems reported.

The Mazda MX-5 Miata received an overall score of 79. Mazda really packs in the fun into the two-seater sports car. The MX-5 Miata combines lithe, precise handling with a crisp manual stick shift and zoomy engine that creates the ultimate driving experience.

Mazda Downloadable Car Pack Lets You Drive the new MX-5 in Forza Horizon 2

The all-new, fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 Miata isn’t exactly the most expensive roadster out there. In fact, at under $25,000, it’ll be one of the coolest cars you can buy for the price.

Mazda MX-5 Miata - Mazda Downloadable Car PackUnfortunately, it’s not quite here yet. The car isn’t set to hit Steet Ponte Mazda until later this year at the earliest, and even when it does, you might not have 25 grand lying around. But you might have an Xbox, which can basically get you halfway.

On March 17th, a new Mazda downloadable car pack was made available on Forza Horizon 2 (a racing video game on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One), which includes the greatest MX-5s from 1990 all the way up to the upcoming 2016 model.

The automaker is also organizing a competition with a real-life MX-5 Miata as the ultimate reward. Those interested need to lap the virtual car around the Sisteron Perimeter Sprint Circuit, with the two fastest slated to take part in a head-to-head race in June. The winner will get his very own 2016 MX-5!

Mazda is Considering a Turbocharged MX-5

The Mazda MX-5 has always been regarded as an incredible value proposition. It’s one of those cars that, for an affordable amount of money, can give you that proper roadster experience you’ve always wanted.

Turbocharged MX-5The announcement and reveal of the all-new model has gotten us even more invested than usual in the MX-5 at Steet Ponte Mazda, and now the automaker’s head of global public relations, Kudo Hidetoshi, is hinting at an even more powerful version.

“We will have this ND-series model for maybe ten years, which gives us plenty of time to make many variants,” he said. “And yes, a turbocharged or MPS variant is one of the options we will definitely consider.”

The current engines will be 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinders. Possible upgrades could include the 2.5-liter version of those engines already found in the high-end Mazda3s, though Hidetoshi was adamant about a turbocharged Mazda MX-5. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see!

Mazda MX-5 Cup Goes Global

Mazda MX-5 CupSince its recent unveiling, the most-asked question about the fourth-generation Mazda MX-5 has been “Where will it race?”

Mazda has just answered that question with the announcement that the Mazda MX-5 Cup would be going worldwide in 2016 as the MX-5 Global Cup, a new series that will take place in North America, Europe, and Asia.

The series will take place around the world with identically prepared cars and will culminate at the end of 2016 with a Global Shootout at the famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California.

“It has long been our goal to see Mazda fans around the world competing in identical MX-5s, and the launch of the 2016 MX-5 Miata is the perfect time to make this goal a reality,” said Masahiro Moro, a Mazda executive.

Little has been revealed about the race-spec MX-5 so far, though we do know it uses a 2.0-liter Skyactiv four-cylinder engine. For all the details about the production version, however, visit Steet Ponte Mazda!

Forty-Four Mazda MX-5 Miatas Used to Pop the Question

2014 Mazda MX-5 MiataWe’ve heard of creative proposals and we know a thing or two about Mazda enthusiasts, but we’ve never seen the two combined quite like this. Forty-four Mazda MX-5 Miatas were strategically parked in a lot to spell a question one man hoped would be answered with happily ever after.

An aerial photographer and member of the Miata.net forum solicited the help of his fellow MX-5 fans, asking to borrow their vehicles for a special proposal. At the appointed time and place, 44 MX-5 Miatas were on hand to spell “Marry Me?”.

Once they were arranged, the hopeful groom-to-be asked his girlfriend to check out what she thought would be overhead shots of real estate taken by an unmanned drone. Among the photos captured was the parking lot where the Miatas helped our photographer friend pop the question.

Don’t worry. She said yes!

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata Gets the Full SKYACTIV Treatment

2014 Mazda MX-5 Miata

Mazda is celebrating the Mazda MX-5 Miata’s 25th anniversary, and they’re doing it in style. The brand is releasing a totally redesigned Miata to commemorate the quarter-century milestone; while the new Miata will see changes in design language and body design, it’s the all-new SKYACTIV engine options that have us buzzing here at Steet Ponte Mazda.

The 2016 Miata will feature both a 1.5L SkyActiv-G engine and a 2.0L version as well. The 1.5L engine gets a respectable 99 horsepower and 111 lb-ft of torque, but that just won’t cut it on American roads. No worries, Mazda enthusiasts! Experts, like Joe Mahan of Digital Trends, expects the 2016 Miata to come standard with the 2.0L engine here in the states.

The 2016 Miata will hit dealerships, like ours here at Steet Ponte, sometime in 2015. As always, it will be a beautiful little sports car, and on our American version, will feature quite enough power to let you zoom-zoom your way around your life. Check back with us often for more updates on the special 25th anniversary Miata!
