How to Improve Your Fuel Efficiency This Fall

Improve Your Fuel Efficiency This Fall

Improve Your Fuel Efficiency This Fall

Each season brings its own challenges in terms of driving. One of the challenges to navigate each season is how to optimize your fuel efficiency. As summer gives way to autumn, you may be wondering how to improve your efficiency this fall. Steet Ponte Mazda has a few ideas.

  • Regularly check your tire pressure. Declining temperatures can mean a reduction in your tire pressure. Driving on underinflated tires is a sure-fire way to lower your fuel efficiency.
  • Get your seasonal maintenance. Fall is the perfect time to get car maintenance—Steet Ponte Mazda can inspect crucial systems, but we’ll also change your oil to make sure you get optimal efficiency this fall.
  • Slow down. Especially as it gets chillier outside, it’ll be tempting to get to your warm destination faster. But speeding is one of the worst habits to affect your fuel efficiency. By sticking to the posted speed limit, you can ensure you’ll burn through fuel at a slower rate.
  • Clean out your car. During summer road trips, trips to the pool, and participation in various sports games, you may have collected a lot of gear and luggage in your car. By emptying out things you won’t commonly use in the fall and winter—such as your golf clubs—you can reduce overall weight and improve your fuel efficiency this fall.

If you need help preparing your vehicle for fall, don’t hesitate to reach out to Steet Ponte Mazda’s wonderful service center today!

What Determines Your Credit Score?

What Determines Your Credit Score

What Determines Your Credit Score

Your credit score is very important; it will help determine the type of loan you get—or if you get a loan at all—for big purchases like a house or car. But what actually determines your credit score?

  1. Credit Card Usage: How you use your credit card helps determine your credit score. The utilization rate is essentially how much available credit you have been awarded and how much you actually use. If you have a $1,000 credit limit on a card and only use $300 (30%) each month—and regularly pay it off—you are actively working on building strong credit.
  2. Payment History: Late bills and payments will negatively affect your credit score, but if you regularly make your payments on time, this will help improve your credit score.
  3. Number of Open Lines of Credit: Improving credit can be confusing. Creditors want you to have a robust history of credit, meaning they like to see several open lines of credit. But that doesn’t mean they want you to open ten credit cards and never pay them off. Instead, they want to see a balanced and maintained credit history, with perhaps a couple credit cards, student loans, an auto loan, and a mortgage, all of which are regularly paid.

2017 Mazda CX-5

When many drivers go out shopping for a new car, they might factor things like design and driving experience into their decision, but one of the most important things to consider is safety. The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is quickly becoming one of Mazda’s best-selling family cars. That’s why Mazda CX-5 safety features have been engineered with the modern family in mind, to provide parents with a practical, affordable ride that protects and provides more security than ever. In fact, the IIHS has named the Mazda CX-5 a Top Safety Pick+.

The IIHS is one of the organizations besides the federal government (the NHTSA) that subjects vehicles to crash tests and other safety tests and rates them based on how they perform. The IIHS found that the Mazda CX-5 not only scored the highest rating of “Good” in every crash test, but also earned a Superior rating for its optional front crash prevention system. Additionally, the crossover’s available LED headlights earned top ratings, too. By meeting all these criteria, the IIHS tacked the extra “+” onto the end of its “Top Safety Pick” title, the top accolade from the organization.

Tips for Back to School Season

Parenting Tips for Back to School Season

Parenting Tips for Back to School Season

Back to school season can be stressful and busy for parents and kids alike. So, the question becomes, how do you stay connected during this busy time?

Make a game out of asking about their day

Lots of kids will groan if you ask them the generic, “What happened at school today?” question. Instead, make a game out of it by matching different questions to different numbers, and then having kids pull playing cards. Whatever number is on the card is the question they have to answer.

Ask questions at bedtime

If you don’t want to ask questions as a game, here’s four simple questions to ask as you tuck the little ones into bed.

  • What was your favorite part of today?
  • What was your least favorite?
  • Do you have any questions about today?
  • How did you show kindness today?

Introduce kids to cell phones by negotiating rules

Giving young children their first phone doesn’t have to be stressful. Involve them in the decision to set boundaries and rules for cell phone use.

Make a tech curfew

Letting kids stare at bright screens until bedtime can interfere with their sleep. Make sure to set a time when tech use has to stop.

Give kids morning cue cards

Are your kids struggling with their routine? Make little cards for them, instructing them what order they should complete tasks in and at which time.

With these tips from us at Steet Ponte Mazda, back to school season doesn’t have to be so hectic.

Mazda Now Accepting Preorders for Hardtop MX-5 Miata

hardtop MX-5 MiataLike convertibles? Of course you do. With their association with free-spirited leisure and high-end luxury, owning a convertible sports car is on most people’s bucket lists. A favorite among drivers is the Mazda MX-5 Miata, with its relatively affordable price in comparison to other sporty, luxurious convertibles and its lightweight, zippy performance. However, the fact of the matter is that convertibles—with their noisy tops and often-cramped interiors—are often impractical for daily life, which is why the new hardtop MX-5 Miata—called the RF—is such a ground-breaking addition to Mazda’s lineup.

Preorders for the MX-5 Miata RF began recently on September 26th, with the first 1,000 models coming in a special Launch Edition. Long-time loyal Mazda fans get first dibs on the Launch Edition models, having received personalized codes with a limited-time offer attached. Of course, even if you don’t need the Launch Edition, the release of the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is a big moment for the brand. Mazda representatives predict that the RF will sell more than the standard MX-5 Miata due to the fact that its hard convertible top will reduce wind noise and give the model more of an aerodynamic coupe feel when the top is up.

The hardtop MX-5 Miata RF Launch Edition went on sale to the general public on October 3rd, provided any of them were left. The 25th Anniversary Edition of the standard MX-5 Miata sold out in less than ten minutes back in 2014, after all.

Experience Haunted Excursions on the Adirondack Scenic Railway

Adirondack Scenic Railway

While it isn’t exclusively a Halloween attraction, once a month the Adirondack Scenic Railway invites passengers to come for a ride in the evening, when it takes passengers on a two-hour round trip from Thendara Station to tell ghostly stories of crime, murder, and tragedy. Referred to as the Haunted History Evening Excursion, the next of these events falls on October 22nd. So if you’re looking to get in the Halloween spirit, this is a great, unique experience.

The stories told by attendants on the scenic passenger train are derived from the book Haunted Old Forge, which details the spirits lingering on the slopes of the Adirondack Mountains. Beware, however; you’ll be lead out into the heart of the action. Passengers will be required to disembark the train and follow the guide through the wilderness on the mountains, supposedly surrounded by the spirits of legend discussed by the guide. The story will be told by authors Dennis Webster and Bernadette Peck, as well as acting troupe the Players of Utica.

In the fall, the Adirondack Scenic Railway departs for this haunted adventure at 7:00pm, so make sure to arrive before then and dress appropriately for the weather. Coach ticket rates are $25 per person. The railway also recommends proper footwear for walking, bug spray, and perhaps even a flashlight—and don’t forget some extra cash for the gift shop so you can bring home a souvenir.

Safety Tips for Sharing the Road with Motorcycles

Sharing the road with motorcycles can be a little scary—motorcycles are a lot smaller than cars, tend to weave around more, and easily hide in blind spots. Just follow these tips to keep yourself and the motorcyclists around you safe.

Sharing the road with MotorcyclesAgain: remember your blind spots. A lot more motorcycles are on the road during the summer, so checking your blind spots extra carefully before switching lanes is a must. You should also be extra cautious when switching lanes, especially on the highway, as you’ll create a gust of wind that can knock a motorcycle over if you do it too close. Put plenty of space between you and a motorcycle before you pass it.

If you’re driving behind a motorcycle, put more space than you usually would between yourself and the bike. If you have to stop suddenly, you don’t want to be anywhere near close enough to hit it—whereas tapping the rear of a car in front of you can cause a little damage, running into a motorcycle can be fatal to the rider.

Be careful at intersections, since it can be difficult to tell where and when motorcycles are turning. Any time you make a left turn, keep an eye out for approaching bikes—this is a major cause of accidents for motorcycles.

Never forget that we all have to share the road safely!
