Travel Tips for Your Memorial Day Weekend

Memorial Day weekend is the unofficial start to summer which means traveling, barbecue’s, swimming and spending time with family and friends. The most traditional way to travel is by car which means that this weekend you can expect some traffic. Here at Steet Ponte Mazda, we know you’re ready to kick off summer and are eager to get to your final destination, but here are some tips to keep safe while you travel this Memorial Day weekend.

Travel tips - road tripTiming is Key – If you’re able to set your schedule, take an extra day off of work to travel to avoid high traffic times. Also try driving at night since it will be cooler outside, the kids will sleep and you will probably burn less fuel. Semi’s usually take breaks at night so there will be less cars and trucks driving.

Switch Drivers – No matter how far or close your final destination is, switching drivers is always a smart idea. This allows everyone to stretch their legs, get anything they need out of the back, refuel the car and yourself and it will help reduce driver stress. If you are driving a longer distance, try swapping out drivers every two or three hours.

Pack Smart – Usually when you are getting ready for your trip and packing everything up, you pack twice as many clothes as you really need and not enough snacks. Snacks keep adults and children happy in the car and it will reduce stress, and even possibly tantrums. No matter where you are traveling to, you can always find a laundry center or shopping center in every town. If you run out of clothes you can always go wash them at the Laundromat or get some new threads at a store in town.

Stop Along the Way – If you switch drivers then stopping will come naturally. With some planning you can find some interesting places you can pull over and explore. Take some time to map out your route and see if there is any fun or unique places to stop along the way. This will break up the monotony of the road and gives everyone a chance to stretch their legs, a snack and drink before hitting the road again.

Remember to always get your car checked out before you head out for a long weekend road trip! Stop by our service department and let them look over your vehicle before you set out!

Safe Mazda Customization Tips

Your Mazda is awesome, but have you ever wanted to customize it? There are tons of things you can do to your car, and safely! Here are some Mazda customization tips that will enhance your car’s performance.

Mazda CustomizationInstall a Performance Cold Air Intake

A cold air intake can increase your vehicle’s horsepower significantly. Since cold air is denser than warm air, there’s more oxygen per volume of air. Introducing cold air maximizes efficiency and performance.

Install a Cat-Back Exhaust

This changes the exhaust and usually includes a rear pipe, a resonator, and a muffler but can have more pipes, too. This allows more airflow than a stock exhaust, and this allows the engine to breathe more freely, which is healthier on the engine and increases horsepower and fuel efficiency.

Use a Mazda Bonnet Protector

A bonnet protector protects the paint on the front of your car from chips caused by rocks and other falling debris. If you do want one of these, be prepared for regular maintenance.

Tint Your Windows

This is pretty common, but it’s great for keeping the inside of your car cool, which lessens the load of the air conditioning system. Just be mindful of the regulations of your state on how much windows can be tinted.

Mazda RX Vision Concept Wins “Most Beautiful Concept” Title

The Mazda RX Vision concept made its debut in the second half of 2015 at the Tokyo Motor Show and was met with incredible success. Enthusiasts and insiders alike scrambled to get a look at the revival of the Mazda RX nameplate, and Mazda has since brought the concept to various other events to show off the RX Vision’s sleek good looks and elegant but powerful performance. One such event was the recent 31st Festival Automobile International, at which the RX Vision concept won the “Most Beautiful Concept” award.RX Vision concept - Mazda

Mazda has a history steeped in sporty, light, fun-to-drive little cars, and the RX Vision is a continuation of a long and rich pedigree of sleek, aerodynamic coupes with a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive powertrain. Other cars in the running for the award at the 31st Festival Automobile International includes the likes of the Porsche Mission E, Bentley EXP 10 Speed 6, and the Peugeot Fractal, but it was the RX Vision concept’s elegant tweaks to Mazda’s KODO – Soul of Motion design philosophy that won over the judging panel.

This isn’t the first award that the RX Vision concept has taken home. Mazda’s global design division acquired three more awards last year at the Automotive Brand Contest 2015, one of which was the most reputable award at the ceremony, the Team of the Year title. The Mazda RX Vision was on display in Paris until January 31st following the show.

How to Spread holiday Cheer in Your Neighborhood

Holiday Cheer in Your NeighborhoodThis time of year is undeniably the most joyous, but for some people, their joy may be dampened for one reason or another. If you know of people who are feeling more downhearted this Christmas season, here are a few simple ways to spread holiday cheer in your neighborhood.

  • Order a pizza. Sometimes, a little bit of food is all it takes to make someone’s day brighter. Send an unannounced pizza delivery to a friend. There is no other comfort food quite like a hot pizza.
  • Buy the gas. The next time you stop to fill up your car, offer to buy someone else’s gas. Perhaps you see a mom with a minivan full of kids or an older gentleman who is struggling to get in and out of his car. Just imagine how great you would feel if someone paid for your gas.
  • Give a gift card. Head to your local grocery store and purchase a few gift cards for the store in whatever amount works for you. Then, walk around and look for people who seem like they could use a smile. Hand them the gift card, wish them a Merry Christmas, and walk away.
  • 12 Days of Christmas. Pick out a neighbor who lives nearby who could use a little cheer this holiday season. Then, as a family, come up with 12 gifts you could share with them—cookies, cards, decorations, dinner, etc. Each of the 12 nights leading up to Christmas, sneak over to their house, leave the gift on the porch, ring the doorbell, and hide. On the last night, you can announce your presence, if you want, or just leave all the gifts as a mystery.

What is your favorite way to spread Christmas cheer?

The Importance of Changing Your Oil and What Can Go Wrong

Importance of changing your oilLearning the importance of changing your oil will only help you extend the life of your vehicle.

The oil in your car not only lubricates the working parts that keep it moving and the engine, but it also absorbs heat, ensuring that your vehicle doesn’t become too hot and break down.

That is why the importance of changing your oil really cannot be understated. Without fresh oil, many aspects of your vehicle can be affected and even break entirely, causing you costly repairs – or worse – a collision.

Additionally, any dirt or grit that makes its way into your car can get into the oil, ultimately spreading throughout the inside of your car. Simply replacing your old oil with fresh oil should wash out most of this debris.

Fortunately, oil is easy to check and replace, and most vehicles come with an owner’s manual that specifically states how frequently the oil needs to be changed. Of course, if you drive on harsher roads than average, you may want to change the oil more frequently.

If you are ever worried about the state of your oil, be sure to have it checked out by a professional. For more service information, contact us at Steet-Ponte Mazda.
