In a world full of increasingly creative design, our own Mazda MX-5 wins the Red Dot Award of 2015 in Product Design, an award given to innovatively designed products across a wide variety of industries.
The Red Dot is the prize of the Product Design competition, the gala for which was held this year in Essen, Germany on June 29. The Red Dot Product design competition has existed since 1954, and it is highly prestigious to win a Red Dot, as this award is basically an internationally recognized quality stamp.
The Mazda MX-5 series is a favorite sports car, with its front-engine rear-wheel design giving it an attractive, athletic look and powerful engine at an affordable price point. The director of Mazda design, Kevin Rice, says that the MX-5 has always been about “creating smiles,” which he says contributed to the car’s Red Dot win.
The MX-5 is the fifth Mazda to win a Red Dot Award.
