One look at the 2016 Mazda lineup, and odds are you can find a stylish car that’s perfect for you. The New England Motor Press Association certainly thought so, handing down two best-in-class awards to 2016 Mazda models. When all was said and done, the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda CX-3 crossover drove home winners.
The 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata is a roadster that just doesn’t quit. This hot ride took home the “Best Affordable Convertible” award in the Ragtop Awards category and was recognized as a lifetime achievement award. That only adds to the Miata’s already heavy awards shelf. Winner of the World Car of the Year and World Car Design of the Year, the Miata was a shoo-in for the New England Motor Press Association’s award.
The Mazda CX-3 crossover won the “Best-in-Class Sub-Compact SUV/Crossover” in the Winter Vehicles Award category. Citing its versatility on- and off-road, the CX-3 is perfect for New England drivers that was excellent efficiency and a value-oriented ride for driving in winter. In total, 2016 Mazda models have earned over 100 awards.

The Mazda MX-5 has always been regarded as an incredible value proposition. It’s one of those cars that, for an affordable amount of money, can give you that proper roadster experience you’ve always wanted.
The announcement and reveal of the all-new model has gotten us even more invested than usual in the MX-5 at Steet Ponte Mazda, and now the automaker’s head of global public relations, Kudo Hidetoshi, is hinting at an even more powerful version.
“We will have this ND-series model for maybe ten years, which gives us plenty of time to make many variants,” he said. “And yes, a turbocharged or MPS variant is one of the options we will definitely consider.”
The current engines will be 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinders. Possible upgrades could include the 2.5-liter version of those engines already found in the high-end Mazda3s, though Hidetoshi was adamant about a turbocharged Mazda MX-5. Looks like we’ll have to wait and see!
