Mazda6 and CX-5 Earn 2015 J.D. Power APEAL Study Awards

The Mazda6 and CX-5 are no strangers to acclaim from auto experts. We love even more, however, when our customers go to bat for their favorite Mazda models, testifying of their overall quality and appeal. In the J.D. Power and Associates Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout (APEAL) Study of customers’ opinions after 90 days of ownership, both the Mazda6 and CX-5 were named winners in their segments.

2015 Mazda CX-5 - J.D. Power APEAL StudyThe 2015 Mazda6 claimed its second consecutive win as the most “APEAL-ing” vehicle in the “Midsize Car” class; and the 2015 CX-5 won its second award as winner of the “Compact SUV” segment. The CX-5 also took top honors in 2013.

The APEAL Study is based on eight areas of vehicle evaluation: engine/transmission; ride, handling, and braking; comfort/convenience; seats; cockpit/instrument panel; heating, ventilation, and cooling; sound system; and styling/exterior. The survey asks customers to relay their experiences after owning the new vehicle for 90 days; and when the results came in, it was clear that the Mazda6 and CX-5 had passed the test with flying colors.

The models’ appeal only gets better with the 2016 versions.

“Since going on sale in February, the refreshed 2016 Mazda6 and CX-5 have provided car-shoppers with what were already segment-leading vehicles and improved upon them with new technologies, premium materials and enhanced style,” said Jim O’Sullivan, Mazda’s North American president and CEO.

“We’re honored that J.D. Power and our customers recognize our relentless efforts, and we look to keep building the best cars and crossovers we can to meet the needs of discerning drivers.”

Mazda MX-5 Wins the Red Dot Award

Mazda MX-5 wins the Red Dot AwardIn a world full of increasingly creative design, our own Mazda MX-5 wins the Red Dot Award of 2015 in Product Design, an award given to innovatively designed products across a wide variety of industries.

The Red Dot is the prize of the Product Design competition, the gala for which was held this year in Essen, Germany on June 29. The Red Dot Product design competition has existed since 1954, and it is highly prestigious to win a Red Dot, as this award is basically an internationally recognized quality stamp.

The Mazda MX-5 series is a favorite sports car, with its front-engine rear-wheel design giving it an attractive, athletic look and powerful engine at an affordable price point. The director of Mazda design, Kevin Rice, says that the MX-5 has always been about “creating smiles,” which he says contributed to the car’s Red Dot win.

The MX-5 is the fifth Mazda to win a Red Dot Award.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata’s Fuel Economy Rises 25 Percent

Thanks to SKYACTIV Technology and some nifty weight-saving techniques, the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata’s fuel economy is estimated to be about 25 percent better than the outgoing model.

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata's Fuel EconomyThe EPA estimates it’ll get 27 mpg in the city, 34 mpg on the highway, and about 30 mpg combined when equipped with the standard SKYACTIV-MT six-speed manual transmission—which is, of course, the transmission we recommend at Steet Ponte Mazda. Proper roadsters like the MX-5 Miata can only be halfway experienced with an automatic.

If you do choose the automatic, fuel economy estimates stay the same except for a 2 mpg bump on the highway. We promise we won’t judge.

Either way, the new SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter engine with its 155 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque should be giving you a nice time, especially since the new MX-5 Miata has lost about 150 pounds compared to the 2015 model. So in addition to being more economical, it’ll also be faster off the line and more nimble!

2016 Mazda MX-5 Launch Edition

2015 Mazda3 Grand Touring Turns Heads

2015 Mazda3 Grand TouringIt’s no secret the Mazda3 holds over half of the company’s sales and for good reason. In its third generation, which first hit the pavement in 2014, the Mazda3 has maintained its position on Mazda Motors’ sales reports. For 2015, there isn’t much that’s changed compared to last year’s model. The only major change can be found under the hood in the form of a 2.5-liter engine. That being said, let’s take a look at the highest trim, the Grand Touring.

The Mazda3 Grand Touring comes with a whole bag of optional goodies including forward obstruction warning, radar cruise control, and lane departure warning, just to name a few. Without this technology package, the Grand Touring weighs in at a little over $26,000. For the highest trim, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Even with the larger engine the car still gets 29 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. There was no sacrifice to power, either. Horsepower-to-torque ratio is nearly even with 184 hp and 185 lb-ft. As you’d expect, the Grand Touring model has every comfort offered interior and there’s little left to be desired. Power and heated seats, lumbar support, voice-activated radio, and speed-sensitive volume control are just a few of the many features. Customer satisfaction, both behind the wheel and under the hood, came first when building the 2015 Mazda3 Grand Touring trim.

Mazda2 Celebrates new Model with Special Edition Sedan

There’s a new version of the Mazda2 out there on the roads now—and the brand is taking the opportunity to show off some exciting new versions of the model as a celebration. The Black Edition and White Edition of the new Mazda2 might only be available in the UK right now, but that doesn’t keep us from getting excited about them here in the States.

Mazda2 Special Edition SedanOf course, as the names of the special edition sedan models imply, these vehicles come with some killer paint options. The Black Edition comes with Jet Black Mica paint while the White Edition wears a Crystal White Pearlescent coat—and together, they both add up to the most stylish look the Mazda2 has ever seen. There’s power underneath that exterior, too, thanks to a 1.3-liter engine and a five-speed manual transmission that makes these sedans sporty and zippy enough to conquer any road.

“The Mazda2 Black Edition and White Edition represent a last chance for our customers to get their hands on a unique version of the current 5-door Mazda2,” said UK sales director Peter Allibon. “As with every Mazda special edition model, they combine bespoke exterior and interior styling with a lavish standard equipment specification, offering customers stand-out individuality and outstanding value for money.”

Mazda 2014 Sales Numbers Best in 20 Years

It looks like Mazda can look back on 2014 with some fond memories. The Japanese carmaker recently announced that Mazda 2014 sales were the best the company has recorded since 1994. Over the course of last year, Mazda boasted a 7.7% increase in sales since 2013 after selling a total of 305,802 units in both the fleet and retail sector.

Mazda 2014 Sales - 2015 Mazda CX-5“2014 can only be described as historical when it comes to Mazda sales,” said Ron Stettner, vice president of sales for Mazda North America. “Mazda3, Mazda6, and CX-5 have out-performed all year and, as a result, we surpassed 300,000 vehicle sales for the first time since 1994. The support of our dealers, along with the strongest, most-competitive showroom we have ever offered is the driving force behind our success; I’m confident we’ll continue this momentum through 2015 and beyond.”

Helping Mazda achieve these great sales numbers was the Mazda3, which recorded its second best December sales last month after selling 9,719 units. The CX-5 also made a lasting impression, almost selling 100,000 vehicles in 2014, which was a 24.6% increase in sales compared to 2013.

Mazda Bio-Based Material Expected in Upcoming MX-5

Mazda Bio-Based Material The Mazda Miata is elevating its status to an even more innovative level, with Mazda establishing its 2016 model as the first to incorporate parts made from an all-new bioplastic, made directly by Mazda.

The bio-based engineering plastic is suitable for many automobile parts on the exterior of cars, allowing the company to lower its environmental impact significantly. This comes in handy not only for the environment, but also for Mazda, at a time when environmentally friendly cars are more popular than ever.

Little is known about the new material, but allegedly, it’s easy to mold, remarkably durable, and able to achieve a mirror-like finish that looks to be even higher quality than classic plastic.

The Mazda bio-based material can be used for interior parts as well, as it will be utilized for the upcoming 2016 Mazda MX-5.

No official release date has been announced for any Mazda models with the new material, so in the meantime, head on down to Steet Ponte Mazda to explore our available models.

Mazda Charity Program Starts Second Annual “Mazda Drive for Good” Event

Mazda Drive for Good“Mazda Drive for Good started as an idea, a way to bring together the good things Mazda, its employees, its dealers and its business partners were doing in their local community,” explained Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. “From there it grew into a way for Mazda to reach new heights in charitable giving, whether monetarily or through volunteer service. Mazda is honored to expand our efforts further by partnering with NBCUniversal and helping a community that needs an extra hand to achieve its goal.”

Mazda Tops EPA Fuel Economy Trends Report for Second Time

Every year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) releases a report that highlights the most fuel-efficient carmakers in the United States. This year, the EPA Fuel Economy Trends Report has found Mazda Motor Corporation to be the number one carmaker in fuel economy for the second time in a row. Due mostly to the company’s use of their unique SkyActiv Technology, Mazda cars have reduced emissions significantly, helping keep the earth (and customers’ wallets) greener.

Mazda - EPA Fuel Economy Trends Report“Mazda has never been one to rest on its laurels, continuing to work hard, innovate, and engineer vehicles that offer class-leading fuel economy in nearly every segment it competes in,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO of Mazda North American Operations. “Because the internal combustion engine is still used in more than 90 percent of the cars and SUVs sold in North America today, we chose to focus on perfecting both the operation and performance of the engine, as well as all the other systems and components that affect efficiency. Offering this technology—at an affordable price—to every consumer will help improve our overall environmental impact.”

And improve Mazda’s environmental impact, it has. The Japanese carmaker boasts the highest fleet-wide fuel economy with 28.1 miles per gallon, while also having the lowest adjusted CO2 emissions of 316. So next time you are looking for a fuel-efficient vehicle, make sure you stop in to Steet Ponte Mazda and see what green cars we have to offer!
